How to Celebrate Yourself Without Guilt

Yesterday we celebrated International Women's Day. I want you to always celebrate {without guilt, shame, or shrinking} the impact you make in other people's lives, big and small. If you make someone smile or lift their spirits in times of challenges, or you cook a healthy, loving meal for your family, remember that those count. Sometimes as women, we tend to discount ourselves and the things that we do for others. We have learned to feel shame and guilt if we put ourselves before our family, our careers, or anyone else. There may be days when you feel unappreciated, unnoticed, and overwhelmed, just know that your loving Father notices you, and He surrounds you with people that recognize you and all that you give and all that you are. We all need that little bit of encouragement and recognition that sparks a sense of self-love. Especially because women who love themselves and channel the power within have the greatest potential to change the world. Be you and always believe in you and in other women, who are your sisters in Christ.

But, how can we celebrate ourselves? What does that mean? Besides, it seems a bit selfish and egotistical.

Celebrating yourself is not selfish, nor is it supposed to make you feel guilty. Celebrating yourself simply means acknowledging that you BELIEVE you are worth it, you are valuable, and you deserve to take some time to enjoy the life you have been gifted with. Yes, life can be hard and challenging and it may knock you down a few pegs, but that is all the more reason you need to celebrate what you have: YOU. Hard doesn't last, and life doesn't have to be wasted in misery. Why? Simply because you are worth more than diamonds and gold combined, and no amount of crap can take away the love you deserve to give yourself. The more you treat yourself with love and value, the more others can sense that and treat you accordingly. I am not saying every will treat you like a queen, but many will come around and be drawn to the good energy, confidence, and love that not many people have.

There are so many ways you can celebrate yourself. What activities do you enjoy and make you feel good? What things would you like to buy or create that bring you joy and make you smile so wide? Here are some popular examples, but please feel free to discover what bring you the most pleasure and feels right to you.

  1. Getting a massage or a mani/pedi
  2. Buying flowers and arranging them yourself
  3. Quiet time on the porch reading a book
  4. Going out to a restaurant you have been meaning to try, or buy all organic and create a fun meal
  5. Weekend getaway to a cozy bed and breakfast
  6. Movie night with family
  7. Replace makeup or clothes that may be outdated
  8. Take a scenic walk or have a nearby city date with girlfriends

...And more! You can engage in these feel-good activities daily or weekly or even monthly, depending on what they are. Things like reading a classic romance, walking through a scenic route, having a random dance party in the bedroom, and journalling about your dreams can be done daily for free, whereas a spa or restaurant date can be a monthly event. Things like a getaway can be done according to what you can afford (which can be once or twice a year, or every other year). The point is to celebrate at least once a month. What are your favorite ways to celebrate and treat yourself?

Now, I will leave you with these two quotes that I hope may inspire you, too:

❤ “Love yourself first, and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” — Lucille Ball

❤ “We do not need magic to change the world. We carry all the power we need inside ourselves already. We have the power to imagine better.” — J.K. Rowling
